Rummage Sale October 16 and 17

We will be in the parish hall accepting donations beginning October 12 – October 15 from 9am- 4pm. A sign-up sheet for workers during that week will be available in the church. Any time you can donate will be appreciated, so don’t worry about the time frames listed. We will also need assistance in filling the “Trinity Bucks” envelopes. No clothing will be accepted this year. Please take them to any thrift store in Marble Falls or Goodwill. We will accept all other items that are in workable condition and are relatively clean. If you desire you can price your items or we will do it. Remember it is a rummage sale and people like reasonable prices.

This year in keeping with our mission and vision “to follow Christ through the ministries of worship, education and service and to be a major Christian presence in the Highland Lakes area, proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ”; we will be dedicating Friday, October 16 to outreach in a very different way. Different non-profit groups in Marble Falls will be given a number of envelopes filled with “Trinity Bucks” for clients to spend at Trinity on Friday, October 16. We have no idea who they will give these to but those receiving the “Trinity Bucks” will be the only people admitted to the sale on Friday. We will also need assistance in filling the “Trinity Bucks” envelopes. We want to share what we have with those that do not have as much. Ministry and Outreach will be furnishing us a list of organizations for connection. Then on October 17th our sale will open to the public. Any questions may be directed to George or Penny Miller.

From The Garden

Ann has given us permission to reprint portions of her gardening journal which was originally published a number of years ago. They were later printed in The Trumpet (2011-2012) and are now included below.

Thank you Ann for sharing your thoughts with us. Click on each month to read the full article

I come to the garden alone, while the dew is still on the roses... And, He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own.

The wonderful lyrics sung so beautifully by Anne Murray describe the feelings I have as I go into my Herb Garden daily to meditate and pray.

In the beginning, God …
We are all so familiar with the book of Genesis and the story of how God first planted a garden and then created Adam and Eve to live within it, ideally in perfect harmony with all their surroundings. Truly, time did begin in a garden.

It is harvest time in the garden. Looking around we see the changing colors of leaves, the bright and beautiful colors of mums and asters, bright orange pumpkins, and baskets of cherry-red apples.
Colors! The warm colors of fall.

Have we spoiled Christmas? Maybe even lost it? Because we have forgotten the meaning of Advent - of the light that comes into dark-ness, of our need to repent and prepare ourselves to receive the true gift? Advent is a time to let our old, used-up, sinful selves die into the earth

Every branch in me that bears fruit the Father prunes – that it may bear more fruit.
The Gospel of John teaches us a lesson about pruning, which comes in handy this time of year. The dormant winter months of January and February find me out in the garden pruning trees.

February - Love and Stuff
Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another… If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us.
Love. What is this thing called love and what does it mean to us?
As a very young girl, I remember singing a song that contained the lyrics, and they will know we are Christians by our love.

Horton Hatches an Egg
So Horton kept sitting there, day after day
And soon it was autumn - the leaves blew away.
And then came the winter - the snow and the sleet!
And icicles hung from his trunk and his feet.
But Horton kept sitting, and said with a sneeze,
I’ll stay on this egg and I won’t let it freeze!

In the eighth chapter of Romans we read ~
For I am persuaded that
neither death, nor life, nor angels,
nor principalities, nor things present
nor things to come, nor any other created things
shall be able to separate us from the love of God.

"It is finished."
With the death and resurrection of our Lord at Eastertide, we read those words from the Gospel.
And so it is with our journey through my garden - finished.
Thank you for joining me on our walk of faith through my spiritual garden.

Women Should Be Silent

“Women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as the Law also says. If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.” (1 Cor 14:34-35)

Also: “Let a woman learn in silence with full submission. I permit no woman to teach or have authority over a man; she is to keep silent.” (1 Tim 2”11-12)

Paul, at best, contradicts himself and seems to renege on his agreement that all will be one in Christ;
male and female. Taken literally, Paul could be guilty of hypocrisy and misogyny...
